Then and Now

A lot has changed since the first rescue ambulances rolled across the streets of Virginia.
What we had then:

What we have now:

Which would you rather have show up at YOUR door?

VAVRS Competition

All eleven Virginia Beach rescue squads are part of the Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads, a statewide organization that allows us to maintain coordination and focus amongst all the volunteer squads across the commonwealth.
We are always pleased to host their meetings whenever we can, and as part of the day we like to have some friendly competition to see whether Rescue 1 really is #1.
These are some pictures back from a 1996 competition:

Patient Assessment:

One of the most challenging categories of the competitions is the patient assessment. Your team strives to assess and treat a patent under the most challenging of simulations with emphasis on teamwork, proper care, and speedy treatment.

Hustle to the hospital:

How do we find patients for the assessment competition? Somehow we convince some poor new recruit to jump on a stretcher while we run thru an obstacle course at full speed to see who can complete it the fastest. The winners get the trophy, the losers wind up on the floor conveniently positioned for the above mentioned assessment contest.

Time to Relax:

The back of Engine 1 makes a convenient seat for all of us to relax after working up a thirst providing patients for the assessment practical.

Public Relations

Local Business Support:

Many years, Target Inc. has donated stuffed bears to local rescue squads so that we may use them on our ambulances and give them to upset children. And our very own Public Relations Officer was there!
Ocean Park Rescue Squad is proud to maintain an Honor Guard which particpates in parades, marathons, and other special events, including the 2002 funeral march in New York City in honor of the fire and rescue personnel lost on 9/11.
