2024 Year End Review from the Chief

1/12/2025

2024 Year-End Message from the Chief of OPVRS

Greetings, and Happy New Year! Here at the Ocean Park Volunteer Rescue Squad, we've entered the new year feeling grateful and excited. The previous year was a busy one and brought many notable accomplishments. Our members responded to 4,896 emergencies in 2024 and contributed more than 19,000 hours of volunteer service to the community. Additionally, we welcomed 14 new volunteer Emergency Medical Technicians to our team and several more non-certified support members. A few more highlights from 2024 are below:

More than 180 hours of member training
Three new Advanced Life Support (ALS) providers
20 community outreach events

2024 also saw the purchase of several new equipment items, including improved assessment equipment, more efficient gear bags, and updated technology, all aimed at ensuring we provide the highest quality of emergency medical care to our patients. None of this would have been possible without the generous support of our community. Donors like you are the reason our members stand ready to answer the call 24/7. Your contributions give our trained volunteers the tools they need to save lives. For this, I want to extend my heartfelt appreciation and sincere gratitude.

I wish you all the best in the new year, and look forward to bringing you future updates on the positive impacts of your contributions. Thank you again, and Happy New Year!

Sincerely,
M. Dylan Koch
Chief, Ocean Park Volunteer Rescue Squad

September 2024 Blood Drive

8/20/2024

Virginia Beach, VA – On September 24, Ocean Park Volunteer Rescue Squad will host a vital blood donation drive, inviting community members to make a life-saving contribution. The event, scheduled from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM, is organized in collaboration with The Blood Connection, a crucial provider of blood supplies in the region.

This blood drive comes at a critical time, as Virginia Beach EMS has recently implemented a groundbreaking Whole Blood Initiative, which allows first responders to administer whole blood directly at the scene of emergencies. This initiative has already proven to be a game-changer in saving lives, particularly in situations where every second counts. The Blood Connection is the primary supplier of the whole blood used by VB EMS, making this drive essential to maintaining the success of the program.

The community's involvement is more important than ever. By donating blood, participants will support this life-saving initiative, ensuring that Virginia Beach EMS remains equipped to provide the highest level of care during emergencies.

Ocean Park Volunteer Rescue Squad encourages both first-time and regular donors to participate in this crucial event. Every donation has the potential to make a significant impact, helping to save lives within the community.

Event Details:

Date: September 24, 2024
Time: 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM
Location: Ocean Park Volunteer Rescue Squad

The community’s continued support in donating blood is not only appreciated, but is a vital component in the ongoing efforts to enhance emergency medical services in Virginia Beach.

🧼 Clean Hands, Happy Hearts: Proper hand hygiene remains essential. Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Hand sanitizers are your pals, too! Let's keep those germs at bay.
