Help us celebrate Don's 40 years of volunteer service to OPVRS and Va Beach.
What were you doing in November 1981? Don Anderson was joining Ocean Park Volunteer Rescue Squad. So, this month we celebrate 40 years of uninterrupted, loyal and steadfast dedication to the Squad. Over the years, one of the things Don has been noted for is taking care of the landscaping around the flagpole which faces Shore Drive. To that end, as we continue to work on the curb appeal of our building, we have a goal to raise $100 per year served by Don and turn that $4000 into a new, fabulous flagpole to be installed in Don's honor. A flagpole to become the centerpiece of that garden and a fixture on Shore Drive for the next 40 years. We have kicked off a little campaign to manage donations to that cause. Don is a living legend. If you haven't seen him recently, take time to chat with him and thank him for all he has done over the years. Click below to donate. Shore Drive has a new traffic signal at East and West Stratford Road and an extra emergency signal for Ocean Park Volunteer Rescue Squad over the eastbound lanes. This new traffic signal will help pedestrians cross Shore Drive safely. Be aware that the proximity of the stoplight may cause traffic to back up in front of the ambulance garages. Please don't block the box in front of the station. This will ensure your car is not blocking any of the emergency vehicles leaving the station. Since the stripes were painted and the signs put in place, the police have been actively enforcing "Don't Block The Box". Call for artists for Shore Drive LOVE art work.Virginia Beach, VA:
LOVE is coming to Shore Drive! As part of the 50th Anniversary of the Virginia is for Lovers slogan the Virginia Tourism Corp offered a grant incentive for the Love Art Signs. Our beautiful Shore Drive was selected to receive a grant! Now we enter the design phase of the project. The Bayfront Advisory Commission in partnership with Ocean Park Civic League is seeking a qualified artist or artist-led team to provide a unique and site-specific LOVE sign at the foot of Pleasure House Point Park on Shore Drive. The LOVE sign goal is to welcome and reflect the spirit of the Shore Drive community. After a shortlist is decided, the community will publicly vote on the final selection of the sign. The sign will be completed by the selected artist during the months of March and April 2020. About the location for the LOVE sign The LOVE sign location is at the foot of Pleasure House Point Park on Shore Drive. It is within the Ocean Park neighborhood and across from Baylake Pines Neighborhood. Shore Drive is a unique area that has a strong history as a part of the city of Virginia Beach. A book on the history of Ocean Park is available. Email Contact: shoredriveloveart@gmail.com Phone Contact: 757-513-5954 |
