Building Renovations Underway!

12/18/2020

Station 1 is getting a facelift!

Renovations are underway! The station is temporarily closed while we refurbish. Don't worry! We've moved our ambulances and supplies to First Landing Fire & Rescue at Shore/Great Neck and Chesapeake Beach Fire & Rescue at Shore/Greenwell. Thanks to
Chesapeake Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad for letting us hang out with y'all for a few days. Your Ocean Park Volunteers are still on the job and ready to answer the call for help across Shore Drive and Virginia Beach.

Notice:
1. While volunteer members will be helping with the work, the station is not equipped to handle walk-in emergencies during renovations. For medical emergencies dial 911.

2. The Ocean Park Food Pantry will be closed and temporarily removed to keep it clean and safe. It will return once exterior work is complete.

New Traffic Signal and Emergency Signal

3/2/2020

Shore Dr and Stratford Rd

Don't Block The Box:
Shore Drive has a new traffic signal at East and West Stratford Road and an extra emergency signal for Ocean Park Volunteer Rescue Squad over the eastbound lanes. This new traffic signal will help pedestrians cross Shore Drive safely.
Be aware that the proximity of the stoplight may cause traffic to back up in front of the ambulance garages. Please don't block the box in front of the station.
This will ensure your car is not blocking any of the emergency vehicles leaving the station. Since the stripes were painted and the signs put in place, the police have been actively enforcing "Don't Block The Box".

Celebrating the life of David Bain

2/11/2020

Picture

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of David Bain.  David was an honorary member and fond supporter of Ocean Park Volunteer Rescue Squad. We met David while eating breakfast at Sunrise Cafe each morning. At some point, every member had met him, sat with him, and shared jokes with him. He expressed an interest in what we did and who we were. He started riding along with our team and learning what we do first hand. David was even voted in as an honorary member by the squad's membership.

One day, during a ride-along, David looked around the station and mater-of-factly stated that we needed new paint and furniture in our day room. With his gift, we were repainting and hauling in new furniture. In 2016 we abruptly lost two ambulances due to mechanical issues. David recognized the urgent need to provide life-saving care to the community. He and Robert Bain stepped up and purchased two ambulances for our station. We continued to meet him for breakfast every morning while driving our new ambulances. David will be missed greatly by our squad and the city.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at H.D. Oliver Funeral Home, Laskin Road Chapel.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, February 13, 2020, at 11:00 AM at H. D. Oliver Funeral Home, Laskin Road Chapel.  Burial will follow in Eastern Shore Chapel Cemetery.
